Spark Golf, an emerging golf tech business, is now operating the largest community of recreational golf leagues in the United States. The company launched in 2018 and operated 23 leagues across six cities. It is now on pace to quadruple the number of leagues in more than 60 cities.
Orlando, Fla.-based Spark Golf continued its growth by expanding its 2019 golf league footprint, the company reported. Spark is now on pace to operate more than 100 golf leagues across 60 U.S cities by the end of May.
According to the Spark website, the company partners with clubs and golf courses to provide fun and unique experiences that create more golfers and urge existing golfers to play more. Clubs that participate, Spark says, gain exposure by offering new and creative experiences that compete for the valuable time of golfers and nongolfers; break away from traditional marketing and distribution tactics and introduce potential golfers to their facility; and maintain control of their inventory and pay only when Spark brings them business.
Following a 2018 launch in which Spark operated 23 leagues across six cities, the company is now focused on scaling in 2019.
“2018 was an important year for Spark as we launched our league communities and player app, which received overwhelmingly positive feedback from roughly one thousand league players,” said Charlie Klaus, Co-Founder & CEO of Spark Golf. “We continue to focus on providing technology-enhanced experiences that bring people together to play golf.”
Driven by the Spark Golf mobile app, Spark’s 9-hole, recreational leagues are fun, social and contain just the right amount of competition. Much like many of the lighthearted adult softball and bowling leagues across the country, 8-round leagues take place on weekday evenings, beginning in April or May.
League players team up in 2-person teams and “compete” weekly against other like-minded, local players. The Spark app engages its league community with on-course scoring, scheduling, standings, stats and consistent player communication.
More than 4,000 golfers will play over 30,000 rounds in Spark leagues during 2019, making Spark the largest golf league community in the United States. National and local sponsorships are also being finalized for the 2019 season.
