The project, being built on the former Apopka Golf & Tennis Club, is expected to break ground this summer and take about five years to build. The community is expected to include 261 homes, an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, Staghorn Club and Lodge with 40s, a water park, and a senior campus.
The Apopka (Fla.) City Council unanimously approved a project on April 11 that will bring an 18-hole golf course with a clubhouse and boutique hotel to a 75-acre parcel in the New Errol community, the Orlando, Fla.-based WFTV ABC 9 reported.
The property was originally built in the 1970’s and included a subdivision with a championship golf course. But over time, the golf course closed, leaving behind debris, overgrown grass and downed trees, WFTV reported.
C&RB reported on the developer’s plans to revamp the Apopka Golf & Tennis Club in September 2016.
Developer Signature H is expected to break ground on the project, which has a price tag of more than $175 million, this summer. It is expected to take about five years to build, WFTV reported.
According to a separate report by The Apopka Chief, the project is expected to include 261 residential homes, a new golf course, clubhouse/lodge area called Staghorn Club and Lodge with a 40-room lodge, a community water park, and a senior campus in the form of two adult living facilities with 90 beds each, and one building with a 60-bed post-acute rehabilitation center.
Also as part of the redevelopment project, Signature H has proposed a new two-lane roadway. To keep residents updated on New Errol, Signature H hosted more than 130 community meetings over the past two years, as well as visits to different Errol areas and interaction with homeowners, Apopka Chief reported.
Helmut Wyzisk III, Signature H vice president, said that trust grew between homeowners and Signature H because of the meetings, Apopka Chief reported.
“There’s value in being transparent in building this team of ambassadors,” he said. “These are our future supporters of New Errol. We had a very successful time in doing that. But you don’t get there without a vision. I would not call this unconditional love or support. This isn’t unconditional love and support. This is conditional support. We made commitments to these residents that they’re going to hold us to, and we’re ready to be held to.”
