Troon Launches Pace-of-Play Initiative
“Troon Values Your Time” communicates a pace-of-play standard to guests and members of Troon-managed facilities before the issue becomes a problem on the course. Some essential elements of the initiative include calculating a facility’s “Time Par” for comfortably playing a enjoying the course, and setting “Pacesetter Times,” which are designated morning tee times reserved for players committed to playing at least 20 minutes under the Time Par.
Mill Creek GC Sold to Local Investment Group
The current owner of the Salado, Texas club wanted to close the course or sell it by October 1, prompting two local investment groups to work on raising $1.75 million to buy the property. The successful group is utilizing the help of local businesses to secure funds to renovate the course and repair some of the holes that were closed after major flooding in the area. The deal is expected to close on July 15.
SunRidge Canyon GC Blames Sodium Content in Effluent for Course Damage
Jeff Lessig, General Manager of the Fountain Hills, Ariz., club, is advocating a voluntary community-wide program to convince residents to switch from using salt to potassium in their home water softeners. Six area golf courses use the treated, reclaimed wastewater, and Lessig hopes to minimize sodium levels before it enters the stream rather than taking on the costs of desalination or buying potable water.
Promontory GC Extends Golf Course for Longest Day of the Year
On June 21, the Park City, Utah club celebrated the summer solstice and the longest day of the year by extending its Jack Nicklaus-designed Painted Valley golf course to 8,357 yards for a one-day event. Pin locations were tucked to the back of the greens and the tee boxes were moved back as far as possible to add 300 yards to the course, making it the longest course in the U.S. for a single day.
Boca West CC Hosts 23rd Annual Charity Extravaganza
The two-day event held at the Boca Raton, Fla., club resulted in nearly $500,000 raised for children’s charities, including the Special Olympics, SOS Children’s Villages, Toys for Tots, the George Snow Scholarship Fund and The Unicorn Children’s Foundation. A group of country club managers, club members, golf industry representatives and local executives gathered to raise the funds through a golf tournament and gala.
