The Lakewood, Wash., facility, which is the only ADA-compatible golf course in the country, recently added 10 Power Tee systems at its driving range. Since 2004, the Friends of ALVGC has provided more than $6 million worth of improvements to the golf course, including building a Rehabilitation Learning Center with indoor training simulators, donating for a new back nine, funding the irrigation system, and buying 12 mobility-impaired golf carts and more than 72 new golf carts through the Cart Sponsorship Program.
American Lake Veterans Golf Course (ALVGC) in Lakewood, Wash., which was built in 1957 so veterans could enjoy recreation and relaxation, recently added 10 Power Tee systems to the facility.
“We have many disabled and older veterans who play here,” said Bruce McKenty, General Manager at ALVGC—the only Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible golf course in the country. “It is extremely difficult for a disabled golfer in a mobility impaired golf cart to tee up a ball at the driving range. It is equally difficult for the older veterans to tee up balls. Power Tee will make this much easier and more enjoyable for these golfers.
“The American Lake Veterans Golf Course is proud to be in partnership with Power Tee,” he added. “They have worked with us to make this venture affordable and enjoyable. They have allowed us to provide a service to our deserving veterans. We are truly the envy of the golf courses in the Great Northwest. I believe we are the first golf course in the Northwest United States to have Power Tee.”
In 2004, the Friends of ALVGC was formed, and since has provided more than $6 million worth of improvements to the golf course, including building a $1.4 million Rehabilitation Learning Center with indoor training simulators, providing $3 million for a new back nine, funding the $600,000 irrigation system, and buying 12 mobility-impaired golf carts and more than 72 new golf carts through the Cart Sponsorship Program.
“We are all touched by the sacrifices that have been made and what ALVGC do,” Power Tee Director, Ross Jones. “Power Tee enables adaptive golfers and those with disabilities to improve and enjoy the game of golf. It gives us great satisfaction to know we are helping others achieve their goal and we are very proud to be part of the journey”
