The Kingsway Country Club in Lake Suzy, Fla., which was purchased by Allegiant Travel Co. in June 2018, will get a major makeover next year and reopen in December 2020 under the company’s Sunseeker Resorts subsidiary, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
The club will close for renovations in April, the Herald-Tribune reported. Upgrades will include a full redesign and refurbishment of the golf course, replacement of turfgrass, irrigation and drainage systems, expansion and enhancements to the driving range and putting, chipping and bunker practice areas, refurbishing the clubhouse, restaurant and event space and relocating the maintenance facilities to improve the course’s playability.
Golf architect Kipp Schulties, who has worked on more than 60 golf courses design projects including the Boca Raton Resort & Club and Quail Lodge Resort & Club, will lead the renovation of the course, the Herald-Tribune reported.
The golf club will be jointly operated with the Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor, which is 10 minutes away from the country club and expected to open by 2021, the Herald-Tribune reported. It was last renovated in 2005 after Hurricane Charley and is scheduled to reopen by December 2020.
“With an extraordinary golf course coupled with premier event and dining space, the new club will be an incredible asset to the area, and for the guests joining us at Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor,” Micah Richins, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Sunseeker Resorts, said in a news release.
Kingsway Country Club has a Par-72, 18-hole championship golf course and an 18,000-sq.-ft. clubhouse with a pro-shop, dining and event facilities, the Herald-Tribune reported. When it opens, the Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor on 22 acres will become the flagship destination for Allegiant Travel Co., the Las Vegas-based company that also operates Allegiant Air.
