Adding Shade to Pool Design

By Diana Mirel | July 19, 2011

As people across the country are becoming more educated on the dangers of prolonged sun exposure, incorporating shade into pool design is a must. Here is what some clubs are doing to give member and guests a respite from the harsh sun:

Pottawattomie Country Club: The club recently installed a 10-by-12 canopy made of aluminum framing and a removable canvas to shade to the pool facility.

Mount Vernon Country Club: The club’s gazebo located atop the pool locker room facility has concrete flooring and a wooden ceiling above, giving members a place to escape the sun and heat without leaving the pool setting. The gazebo can accommodate about 60 people and is often used for private parties and events.

South Hills Country Club: The club offers the best of both worlds by splitting its sundeck into two sections. One open air section of chaise lounge chairs for sun-worshippers and one section of chaise lounge chairs set up under multiple high-pitched roofs for those who prefer enjoying the outdoors in the shade.
