The facility in Point Clear, Ala., will be known as Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa when it reopens in entirety this summer after two years of renovation work. The resort will feature redesigned guest rooms, 37,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, expanded spa, upgraded pool area, two additional dining outlets, and a new recreation lawn.
Renovations are nearing completion at Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, Ala., the Mobile, Ala., Fox 10 reported.
The hotel, which originally opened in 1847, is undergoing $32 million in renovations. The process began in 2016, but are now in the final stretch, Fox 10 reported.
While the charm of the iconic resort remains, visitors will be treated to many upgrades during their stay. Virtually every building has been modified in some way. Guest rooms were gutted and completely redesigned with the latest amenities and the spa can now accommodate more guests. The property will feature 37,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space. Many of the other changes are at one of the most popular parts of the hotel, Fox 10 reported.
“Major changes have taken place at the pool where we’ve added cabanas and added a splash pad and a better sight view of Mobile Bay,” said Director of Sales and Marketing, Kevin Hellmich.
Outdoor amenities abound, including a new recreation lawn with games to fit most any lifestyle and the popular Bucky’s Lounge and courtyard is in the process of having new fire pits added, Fox 10 reported.
“We moved the putting green from the outside of Bucky’s to the other side of the resort where the cannon is and we’ve really activated the entire bay area,” Hellmich said.
The resort has always been known for its dining opportunities and with this renovation comes new dining experiences. The Local Market will open where the old gift shop was. Bayside Grill and Southern Roots restaurants will offer guests an extra variety of dining choices. Much of what will be served will be grown on site, Fox 10 reported.
“We’ve got an estate garden here on the property that is very large. We’re working on the plantings now,” said Food and Beverage Manager, Michael Herzog. “They’re in the greenhouse so that when we open up the restaurants, we can have our garden.”
Bucky’s Lounge and The Local Market will be opening as soon as next week. Some of the other amenities at the main building and the restaurants will be open this summer. Once all of the renovations are complete, the resort will become part of the Autograph Collection hotel brand by Marriott. The restaurants and many of the amenities at the hotel are open to the public, Fox 10 reported.
