The garden, which has been opened to the public, has floral arrangements and remembrance plaques that honor people who are still alive, in addition to recognizing those who have passed away. The garden is paid for by community donations and the sale of the plaques; future proceeds from those sales will be used by the club’s Ladies Association for perpetual care of the garden, as well as other floral arrangements on the property and its nine-hole golf course.
After nearly two years of work, the Norway (Maine) Country Club Memorial Committee has completed its new Memorial Garden and has opened it to the public, the Sun Journal of Lewiston, Maine reported.
Paulette Tabb, speaking on behalf of the club, said the garden has floral arrangements and remembrance plaques, which can either recognize people who have passed away or honor people who are still alive, the Sun Journal reported.
The remembrance plaques feature the names and birth dates of people who have passed away, and they are peppered throughout the garden, Tabb told the Sun Journal.
The garden is paid for by community donations and the sale of remembrance plaques, Tabb said. Any future plaque purchases “will be used for perpetual care of the garden,” she told the Sun Journal.
People are welcome to continue purchasing plaques, Tabb added. “There’s plenty of room for more.”
The Ladies Association of the Norway Country Club takes care of the garden and sets up other floral arrangements on the course, the Sun Journal reported.
