The Tom Weiskopf-designed course closed June 5 and will reopen in October after completion of an enhancement project that will include updating green complexes to their original shape, size and contours by using GPS coordinates gathered from the original design. Greens will be resurfaced with creeping A4 bent grass, and collars with TifGrand semi-dwarf Bermuda grass, and bunkers will get updated drainage and new liners and sand. Troon North’s Monument Course, which underwent a similar project last summer, will remain open for play during the Pinnacle project.
Troon North Golf Club’s Pinnacle Course is undergoing a four-month course enhancement project. Located in Scottsdale, Ariz., Troon North features two 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf courses, Pinnacle and Monument.
The Pinnacle Course closed on Tuesday, June 5th and is expected to reopen in October. The Monument Course, which underwent a similar improvement project last summer, will remain open for daily-fee play this summer.
Troon’s Senior Vice President of Golf Course Development, Ron Despain, is overseeing the Pinnacle project, which includes updating green complexes to their original shape, size and contours by utilizing GPS coordinates gathered from Weiskopf’s original design. In addition, greens will be resurfaced with creeping A4 bent grass, and collars will be resurfaced with TifGrand semi-dwarf Bermuda grass.
Bunker renovations will include updated drainage in all greenside and fairway bunkers, new bunker liners and new Pioneer bunker sand.
“We continue to reinvest in and enhance our flagship facility,” said Troon’s President, Tim Schantz. “Thanks to Ron Despain and the agronomy team at Troon North, our 2017 enhancement of the Monument Course was a huge success and improved upon one of the top daily-fee courses in the nation. We expect to see similar results with this summer’s Pinnacle improvements.”
The 2017 Monument Course improvements were the first major changes to either of the award-winning courses since a 2007 renovation, reconfiguration and rerouting. In 2007, under Weiskopf’s direction, the 36-hole facility was reconfigured by blending the two courses together and changing the sequence in which the holes were played.
