The Sanford Sports Complex’s 54,000-sq. ft. Great Shots attraction, scheduled to debut in late 2019, will include a restaurant, video game-filled children’s area, meeting space, the Sanford POWER Golf Academy and an interactive driving range. The facility will be indoors and heated, and season passes will be sold. Troon will operate Great Shots’ full-service restaurant and bar, and the facility’s six meeting spaces will be available for parties and events.
Golfers will have a place to get their swings in year-round and families will have another entertainment center to enjoy when the newest addition to Sioux Falls, S.D.’s Sanford Sports Complex opens in late 2019, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported.
Called Great Shots, the new 54,000-sq. ft. building will house a restaurant, a video game-filled children’s area, the Sanford POWER Academy and an interactive driving range, the Argus Leader reported. Golf hospitality company Troon will operate Great Shots’ full-service restaurant and bar, and the facility’s six meeting spaces will be available for parties and events.
The heated driving range, with three floors of bays to hold up to 60 golfers at a time, will be open year-round, with a giant video wall and interactive technology provided by Big Shots and Flight Scope. Avid fans will be able to buy a season pass, the Argus Leader reported.
The Sanford POWER Golf Academy will include a putting green, private bays for the range and research space for the Sanford Sports Science Institute to study injury prevention and performance in golf.
“The vision of the Sanford Sports Complex has always been to create a place filled with activities the entire family can enjoy,” Sanford President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft told the Argus Leader in a statement. “And Great Shots is a perfect fit.”
The concept, the Argus Leader noted, resembles the interactive driving ranges being made popular across the United States by Dallas-based Topgolf, which now has dozens of U.S. locations, including one coming soon to Brooklyn Center in the neighboring state of Minnesota.
Great Shots will be located in a growing pocket of northwestern Sioux Falls, the Argus Leader reported, and Sanford Sports Complex executives think it will be a destination for families across the region. Sanford owns more than 500 acres of sprawling farmland in a part of the city still realizing its development potential, the Argus Leader reported.
The city of Sioux Falls has spent millions of dollars on infrastructure upgrades in the area, the Argus Leader reported, which is also home to other massive developments, including the University Center, USD Discovery District and Foundation Park.
Great Shots can be another economic driver for the area, Sanford Executive Vice President Paul Hanson told the Argus Leader.
“Contributing to a robust, financially sound community is not only a responsibility and privilege of a major employer like Sanford,” Hanson said. “But it is essential for us to continue to attract the best and the brightest employees, physicians and researchers.”
