The golf course at the Alpharetta, Ga. property, which is managed as a Billy Casper Signature property, will close from June 1 to late August for a project that will include a conversion of turf from bentgrass to Primo Zoysia, in addition to bunker and irrigation improvements. The club also plans to add a new fleet of golf carts and maintenance equipment and make enhancements to the clubhouse, which will remain open while the golf course is renovated.
The Crooked Creek Club in Alpharetta, Ga., which first opened in 1996 and is managed as a Billy Casper Signature property, will close from June 1 to late August while undergoing renovations as part of a $1.3 million improvement project.
The first step in the multi-stage project, under the direction of Director of Agronomy Mark Patterson, will involve renovating the golf course’s greens and converting turf from bentgrass to Primo Zoysia that has been selected as a better choice for the Southern climate, because it “tolerates shade, thrives in heat and is less susceptible to disease,” the club said.
Other course enhancements will include upgrading the irrigation system, improving the bunkers, leveling tee surfaces and “beautifying” the perimeters of the course. A new fleet of golf carts and maintenance equipment will also be added.
The club’s practice facility will also see improvements, with the installation of a mat running along the back edge of the range tee. New bag stands, chairs and tee dividers will also be added.
In the clubhouse, Crooked Creek plans to add televisions, a fire pit, an outdoor patio, new furniture and new flooring in the Presidents Room and Champions Room.
Clubhouse operations will continue while the course is closed and Crooked Creek plans to maintain an active social calendar for its members.
“This project will transform Crooked Creek from a good course that has lacked necessary attention into a great one with a greens turf product that will lead the industry,” Matt Wilson, the National Director of Operations for Billy Casper Signature, said in a statement. “We know with a greatly improved product, a hardworking on-site team and a loyal, engaged membership base, Crooked Creek Club will be a case study for success.
“We are anxious for the local market, as well as former members, to give Crooked Creek another look when deciding on club membership,” Wilson added.
