Two members of the Philadelphia PGA Section’s Junior Golf Tour wowed the host of the nationally syndicated show and his audience with videos of indoor tricks performed in their homes, as well as live demonstrations of precision shots. “We want to try to really grow the game, because people look at golf and say it’s not that cool,” said 15-year-old Michael Mitnick.
Two teenage members of the Philadelphia PGA Section’s Junior Golf Tour team appeared on the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Show on April 6thto showcase their trick-shot skills, while also helping to promote the game of golf.
James Dalzell and Michael Mitnick, 15-year-olds from Linwood, N.J,, honed their trick-shot skills indoors in their homes during the late-winter and early-spring snowstorms that delayed the start of the golf season in the Northeast. In their appearance on Harvey’s show, the teenagers showed a video they had made of some of those shots, and also engaged Harvey in a live trick-shot demonstration in front of his live audience, making precision shots to kick out individual pieces from a large and intricate stack of wood blocks.

The two young golfers told Harvey that they created their home video in part to help showcase golf in an alternative form and promote the game. “We want to try to really grow the game, because people look at golf and say that it’s not that cool,” Mitnick said. “But when they see these trick shots, they might think otherwise.
“It’s a game of honesty and integrity,” Mitnick added. “And it gives you lessons that you can use later in life, which is really good.”
During the fall 2017 season, Dalzell, who competes in the Boys 13-15 Division, earned two wins on the Philadelphia PGA Section’s Junior Golf Tour, while Mitnick earned second- and third-place finishes competing against older competition in the Boys 16-18 Division.
“We are really proud of James and Michael, not only for their love of the game, but for their desire to promote golf beyond the course, and helping to inspire others to enjoy the sport in some form,” said Geoff Surette, Executive Director of the Philadelphia PGA Section. “These young men are not only fine players and terrific trick-shot artists, but now they are ambassadors for the game. That is impressive for two teenagers.”
