The city of Carmel, Ind., broke ground today on a $10 million addition to Brookshire Golf Club, the Indianapolis Star reported.
Indianapolis-based Shiel Sexton will build a 20,437-sq. ft. clubhouse, a 605-sq. ft. poolhouse and a new pool for $9.3 million. Indianapolis-based Ratio Architects will conduct design work for about $700,000, the Star reported.
The clubhouse will include a pro shop, snack area, bar and several meeting rooms. The largest room will hold up to 200 people and will be marketed for weddings, graduation parties and corporate events. A balcony will be able to accommodate 40 people. Work will be completed by December, the Star reported.
The funding was included in $96 million in bonds the City Council passed in September for a variety of projects, including a downtown hotel, the Star reported.
Carmel bought the 48-year-old golf course from a private group in 2007 for $2.6 million to save it from development. The golf course earns about $1.5 million in revenues and receives about $200,000 a year in city subsidies, the Star reported.
It’s one of three municipal golf courses in Hamilton County. Noblesville operates the nine-hole Forest Park Golf Course and the 27-hole Fox Prairie Golf Course, the Star reported.
