Prestwick Golf Group is planning to complete the acquisition of the Oconomowoc, Wis., property by mid-April and then close its golf course at some point later this year for a project that will “get the water off, [involve] some redesign work” and give it a different look, according to Prestwick Vice President Tyler Morse.
The golf course at La Belle Golf Club in Oconomowoc, Wis., will undergo a significant renovation if a sale to Matt Morse, founder of the Prestwick Golf Group, goes through as expected, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
C&RB reported on the potential sale earlier this month (http://clubandresortbusiness.com/2018/03/prestwick-golf-group-buy-la-belle-gc/) and Tyler Morse, Vice President of Prestwick and Matt’s son, told the Journal Sentinel that the sale is expected to be completed by mid-April.
While La Belle’s golf course recently opened for the new season, Morse told the Journal Sentinel that it will close at some point for construction.
“The plan is we still have to get proper approval to start construction on the course,” he said. “Once those approvals come through, we will be closing the course for the remainder of the season.”
While Morse wouldn’t go into specifics of the course redesign, because the club’s sale is still pending, he told the Journal Sentinel that it will have a different look.
“We will be doing a total redesign of the golf course with Oliphant Companies, out of Madison, Wis., to get the water off the course as well as some redesign work,” Morse said.
Prestwick Golf Group, which is now based in Sussex, Wis. after moving there in 2007, was founded in 1997 under the name Great Lakes Golf Course Products, The company makes plastic tables, chairs, signs, trash bins, towel caddies and other equipment for golf courses, swimming pools and other venues.
“We plan on using [La Belle] as a showroom for our products,” Morse told the Journal Sentinel. “We’re getting into the outdoor casual furniture business [so] we’ll be displaying that at the course. All of our golf property furnishings will be on display on the golf course, as well. We’re using this, basically, as a big showroom for Prestwick.”
While the course will close at some point, the clubhouse area that houses weddings and other events will remain open, Morse told the Journal Sentinel.
“We’re just super excited to steward this golf course, to ensure it’s around for many, many more years for the next generation,” Morse said. “That’s really what we’re excited about having the opportunity to do.”
La Belle CC was founded as Lac La Bell Country Club in 1896 and was a private club for more than 100 years before opening to the public. It was known as Rolling Hills Country Club when it was bought out of receivership for $1.3 million by an investor group in 2015 (http://clubandresortbusiness.com/2015/07/investor-group-buys-la-belle-gc-out-of-receivership-for-1-3m/).
