Through what is being called the first exclusively online equipment trial offer in the golf industry, the website’s U-Try program lets men and women try out new drivers and fairway woods from major manufacturers for up to two weeks, with statistical feedback from a complimentary Arrcos sensor. The website plans to expand the program to hybrids and iron sets later this year.
Global Value Commerce (GVC), the owner and operator of the largest e-commerce platform for new and pre-owned golf equipment, has introduced an online club trial program, U-try, through its Globalgolf.com website, Forbes reported.
The program allows participants to take new drivers and fairway woods from major equipment manufacturers for a “trial run” of up to two weeks, Forbes reported, with the added bonus of real statistical feedback from a complimentary Arrcos Driver unit, a sensor that attaches to the grip-end of the club and pairs with a user’s phone to measure distance, accuracy and other shot metrics.
Through the program, Golfers can select up to two drivers or fairway woods at a time from Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, TaylorMade and Titleist, and have the clubs shipped to them for $25 per item, Forbes reported. Customers can keep the clubs for up to two weeks and conduct as much head-to-head testing as they like.
After the trial period, participants can either keep a club and pay the current list price, minus the trial fee, or return it with a prepaid shipping label. Regardless of what they decide, they get to keep the Arccos Driver sensor.
The U-try program features both men’s and women’s clubs with a variety of shaft flex and clubhead loft options, Forbes reported. And GVC isn’t stopping at just drivers and fairway woods, with plans to offer additional equipment brands as well as hybrids and iron sets by late spring.
In creating the first exclusively online club trial program in the golf industry, Forbes noted, GVC took a page from other retailers that have try-and-buy programs in apparel, jewelry, art, home décor and other categories. And the partnership with Arccos and its shot-tracking platform takes the U-try program to the next level.
“With U-try, we’ve created a risk-free opportunity for our customers to spend time with new clubs and determine what is right for them,” GVC Chief Executive Ed Byman told Forbes.
GVC has had 16 straight years of double-digit growth, Forbes reported, and recorded almost $60 million in sales last year at its Globalgolf websites (U.S. and Canada) as well as other websites that include at 3balls.com, GolfShoesOnly.com, TaylorMadeGolfPreOwned.com and FairwayStyles.com. The company was recently voted to the National Golf Foundation’s list of the top 100 golf businesses.
