The Alton, Ill., property is in the final stages of a remodeling project that includes updates to its clubhouse, an extension of the outdoor patio, and a kitchen addition to accommodate a new barbecue restaurant, Big Boy’s Q & Southern Soul, which will open March 27.
The Woodlands Golf Club in Alton, Ill., is in the final phases of an extensive remodeling project, including updates to its clubhouse, extension of the outdoor patio, and a kitchen addition, the Alton-based Telegraph reported.
“It hasn’t been remodeled since 1999,” said co-owner Joe Boston. “We have one of the best views in Fosterburg, if not Madison County. We want to make this more than just a golf course. We want to make it fun to come have a bite to eat and hang out—a destination. We did this to be involved in our community.”
Neither Boston nor Brian Curry play golf, but they purchased the facility last April. Well-known Alton golfer Daniel Morelli has been brought on to lead the golf club as its General Manager. “I want to focus on relationship-building in the community with nonprofits, such as the Boys & Girls Club and high schools,” said Morelli, who plans to implement a junior golf club when the Woodlands’ new driving range is done, the Telegraph reported.
Since last year, The Woodlands is the home course for Marquette Catholic High School’s boys’ golf team, which allows them to play for free year round. Overall, Boston and Curry want to bring more tournaments to the club, the Telegraph reported.
Boston and Curry’s families all still live nearby. “They’re helping us a ton,” Joe Boston said. “It’s a family-oriented business.”
A new restaurant, Big Boy’s Q & Southern Soul at The Woodlands, will open March 27. “I visited a lot of barbecue places and went into his and he’s doing exactly what I wanted,” Boston said of restaurant runner Ron Boles, originally from St. Louis. “I like the menu and the business model. It will be a store within a store. Brian and I don’t want to run a restaurant, but we want good food.”
Fosterburg Feeders, which Boston owns with Curry’s brother, will provide beef for Big Boy’s Q. The restaurant also will promote special nights for steak dinner from beef via Fosterburg Feeders’ cattle, the Telegraph reported.
The Views at The Woodlands seats 265 and not only hosts weddings, but also graduation parties, business functions, as well as other events, with the clubhouse’s full-service bar, the Telegraph reported.
