The venue in West Hollywood backed by the actress and described as “posh and somewhat prudish” could open in 2020 as the first Southern California outpost of the United Kingdom-based Arts Club. Its nine-story structure would have retail and creative office space on lower levels, with members-only access from the fifth floor up and a rooftop pool and bar.
Plans for the first Southern California outpost of the United Kingdom-based Arts Club are moving right along, and a new environmental report sheds a bit more light on the project that is backed by actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her business partner Gary Landesberg, reported Curbed LA, an online real-estate publication.
The posh and somewhat prudish establishment (swearing is strictly forbidden) would replace a West Hollywood commercial building that currently houses the Sunset Strip Hustler store, Curbed LA reported. The club would be housed in a nine-story structure with retail and creative office space on the lower levels.
The structure, designed by Gensler, a San Francisco architectural firm, would have offset levels with “vertical fins” adorning the facade that appear to rotate and create “subtle, wave-like impressions,” Curbed LA reported. It would sit atop an underground automated parking structure with space for 354 vehicles.
Starting from the fifth floor, the building would be accessible to members of the Arts Club only, Curbed LA reported. This upper section would include private restaurants, bars, and lounges, along with screening rooms, a supper club, a fitness center and spa, and 15 guest rooms for members of the club. Each of the upper levels would also have its own dining terrace and a separate patio space offering views around the area.
The top floor would have a swimming pool and sun deck, as well as a bar and changing rooms.

Construction of the building could begin by the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018, with work on the project expected to last around 32 months, Curbed LA reported, and the Arts Club should be ready to open by 2020.
Other new private clubs are also planned for the Los Angeles area, Curbed LA reported. Construction is underway on a new Arts District outpost for the swanky Soho House chain of clubs, and another members only destination is planned about a mile to the north. Soho House also has another location just blocks from where the Arts Club is set to rise.
