Erick Antonio Hernandez fatally stabbed fellow employee Emmanuel Bravo at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles last October, and has been sentenced to 36 years to life in prison. Neva McDaniel, the former Club Manager of Portales (N.M.) Country Club, has been arrested on 54 counts of embezzlement after admitting to stealing more than $25,000 from the club.
Former employees of clubs in California and New Mexico are facing prison sentences and charges:
Erick Antonio Hernandez, 30, who fatally stabbed a co-worker at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles nearly a year ago, was sentenced on October 17 to 36 years to life in prison, the Westwood (Calif.) Patch reported.
Hernandez was convicted in August of second-degree murder for the killing of Emmanuel Bravo, 28, last October 21, Patch reported.
Bravo was stabbed in the back with an eight-inch chef’s knife about two hours after confronting Hernandez about a complaint he’d made days earlier to management about a locked break room door, according to Deputy District Attorney Bobby Zoumberakis.
Hernandez fled the scene and was arrested the next day by Los Angeles police, Patch reported.
Neva McDaniel, 61, the former Club Manager of Portales (N.M.) Country Club, was arrested last week on 54 counts of embezzlement, the Albuquerque, N.M., KOB 4 News reported.
Court records state McDaniel admitted to stealing more than $25,000 from the club over the past four years. According to the arrest affidavit, McDaniel told police she took the money because she was “being paid so little that she stole in order to support her and her family,” KOB reported.
Police also searched McDaniel’s personal bank accounts and found withdraws at or near casinos. McDaniel claims although she hit the slots regularly, she never spent the money on gambling, KOB reported.
Officials with the Portales Country Club weren’t available for an on-camera interview Monday, but they told KOB this case has put a strain on their small membership and they’re now trying to move forward, KOB reported.
