The sale on June 8 at Barton Creek Resort will include nine putter lines and more than 40 designs of putters and wedges, including the “Billy Baroo” made famous in “Caddyshack.”
An auction of the rights to the Ray Cook Golf putter brand and other assets of the 50-year-old company will be auctioned on June 8 at the Barton Creek Resort Conference Center in Austin, Texas. The live auction, conducted in an “open outcry” fashion by Heritage Global Partners, will be for a complete, single-lot bulk sale offering of all tangible and intangible assets, including the rights, patents, common law and registered trademarks, physical inventory and capital equipment, of Ray Cook Golf Enterprises, the Dripping Springs, Texas company that has been providing products to the golf industry since 1963,
The company’s inventory of assets includes nine putter lines and more than 40 designs of putters and wedges, including the ‘Billy Baroo’ (the mythical putter featured in “Caddyshack”). Assets also include manufacturing equipment and furnishings, as well as marketing vehicles such as the company website and URL, customer mailing lists, as well as the well-established Ray Cook Golf brand.
Other designs and names created by the company include the Ray Cook mallet putter design, as well as the Blue Goose and the Ray Cook Chipper, both invented by Titleist® craftsman “Scotty” Cameron, who began his golf career with Ray Cook.
“The legendary Ray Cook brand has played a significant role in the success of many golfers for nearly 50 years,” said Brandon Smith, VP of Heritage Global Partners. Since 1963, it was noted, the name Ray Cook has been synonymous with success on the PGA and LPGA circuit, with many of the best players in the world using Ray Cook putters. Ray Cook putters are credited with over 200 tour wins, including all of golf’s majors. Ray Cook claims it is the only independent putter company to notch a tour victory in every decade since the 60’s. Golf professionals including Billy Casper, Nick Price, Orville Moody, Roberto De Vicenzo, Dave Stockton, Donna Caponi and Nancy Lopez successfully achieved major tour victories with the assistance of Ray Cook Golf putters.
“We are excited to present this opportunity to potential buyers who want to leverage this established golf equipment brand,’ said Smith. “It is a perfect fit for any company looking to develop or expand a quality putter line under a recognized and respected name. The Ray Cook brand has stood the test of time, as golfers worldwide, including scores of tour players, have elected to carry and use Ray Cook putters, wedges and chippers.”
Registered bidders who cannot attend the live auction will also be able to participate over a dedicated teleconference line. Parties interested in registering to participate in the Ray Cook Golf auction must sign a non-disclosure agreement to gain access to company documents available for review in a virtual data room.
