PGA and LPGA member Cathy Harbin purchased the Paris, Texas property on April 4 and has already given the clubhouse a facelift while updating the golf course’s fairways and greens and developing an irrigation system. A grand reopening for the property is scheduled for May 27.
Cathy Harbin, a member of the PGA and LPGA, purchased Pine Ridge Golf Course in Paris, Texas on April 4, the Paris-based eParisExtra reported.
Pine Ridge was established in 1986. In 1988, Harbin participated in a seminar on buying/leasing a golf course, and went on to become a Golf Professional, executive director of Golf 20/20, Vice President of Golf at ClubCorp, and launched On Course Operations. Twenty-nine years after that seminar took place she saw a dream come true as she took ownership of Pine Ridge, eParisExtra reported.
“This isn’t just your grandpa’s game anymore,” said Harbin. “This is a sport that anyone can be a part of, and this is a place that everyone is welcome.”
The property is hosting the grand reopening of the course on May 27 with a four-person team scramble, lunch, prizes and more, eParisExtra reported.
As the new owner, Harbin said she has three top priorities for the property’s long-term strategy, eParisExtra reported.
“We will continue to protect the core golfers that have continually supported this course over the years and call it home,” said Harbin. “We will always want Pine Ridge to be a welcoming environment that has its doors open to families, newcomers, and people who have played for years on in. Lastly, Pine Ridge will be an extension of the community. It’s a fun and relaxing place to be whether your playing a round of golf or want a cold drink on the patio with a beautiful view.”
Harbin discussed some of the upcoming challenges as she looks to develop the course and get it to the place it needs to be, including being more player friendly, developing the fairways and greens, becoming a more welcoming environment, and developing an irrigation system, eParisExtra reported.
“There’s no magic potion for this—it’s grass,” Harbin said. “It will take time, but in the coming weeks and months, it will begin to look more like we want it to. It’s a long-term strategy and we’re excited to get started.”
Last week, the greens were fertilized, sanded, aerified, and will be fertilized again this coming week. The clubhouse recently received a full face lift, eParisExtra reported.
“I love to play golf, but it’s in my DNA to introduce this game I love to new people,” said Harbin. “I’ve always seen it as a responsibility I have and I am excited to offer a place that people can experience a game I love so much.”
Pine Ridge has also paired up with Change Golf Instruction and will offer golf instructions to any skill level player that wants to up their game, eParisExtra reported.
