A business writer for The Palm Beach Post published data from “freshly released tax returns” to illustrate that the county’s five largest country-club communities “seem to be doing just fine.”
For a feature called “Top 5 Data Dive” that is posted regularly on the Strictly Business blog of The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post, business writer Jeff Ostrowski listed the annual revenues from 2015 of the five largest country clubs in Florida, “all of them in Palm Beach [Fla.] County.”
While country clubs “aren’t as desirable as they once were” and “golf is on the wane,” Ostrowski wrote, “Palm Beach County’s five biggest country-club communities seem to be doing just fine, thanks.”
Citing “freshly released tax returns” and noting that “many country clubs are nonprofits that must make their finances public,” Ostrowski’s blog post showed the revenues of five clubs that pulled in more than $20 million in 2015. The list included:
- Boca West Country Club, (Boca Raton, Fla.), described in the post as “still the biggest by far,” with reported 2015 revenues of $53 million, up 19 percent from 2014.
- Broken Sound Club (Boca Raton, Fla.), with reported 2015 revenues of $28.6 million, up 8 percent from 2014.
- BallenIsles Country Club (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), with reported 2015 revenues of $26.8 million, up 5 percent from 2014.
- Andrews Country Club (Boca Raton, Fla.), with $21.6 million in reported 2015 revenues.
- Woodfield Country Club (Boca Raton, Fla.), with reported revenues for 2015 of $21.5 million.
The Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Fla. finished “just outside the top five,” the blog post noted, with $19.7 million in revenue for 2015.
At two of the clubs on the list, the blog post added, general managers’ salaries approached $1 million.
