“The Grove” takes up nearly 12 acres at the Greensboro, Ga., property and includes a mile-long hiking trail with fitness stations, the Sanctuary Pond nature overlook, stadium seating for concerts and events, a sports field and quarter-mile track, and dog parks.
The Harbor Club on Lake Oconee has unveiled a new fitness, recreation and special event campus, “The Grove.”
Located near the Greensboro, Ga. community’s entrance gate, The Grove encompasses roughly twelve acres and includes a new state-of-the-art fitness center, a mile-long hiking trail with fitness stations, expanded wedding and reception facilities, and a nature overlook called Sanctuary Pond. The area also includes stadium seating for concerts and events overlooking a sports field and measured quarter-mile track, a Victory Garden, and dog parks for both large and small dogs.
“The Grove provides Harbor Club residents and members with a vibrant new amenity and a perfect complement to our award-winning golf course, marina, clubhouse, and swim and tennis center,” said General Manager Brandon Matney.
The Grove’s expansive 2,000-sq. ft. fitness center and group fitness and yoga room is located in the Carriage House, which also is home to Harbor Club offices and its real-estate Design Studio.
The center is amply stocked with exercise stations including recumbent bikes, treadmills, powermill climbers, elliptical cross-trainers, biceps curls, fixed pulldowns and free weights. Each exercise station features an easy-to-read console with several options for personalized entertainment, helping exercisers complete more enjoyable workouts.
Perhaps the centerpiece of The Grove is The Stables, one of the lake area’s most popular wedding and special-event venues. The Harbor Club has recently enhanced the facility with the addition of an outdoor wedding chapel built from cedar trees brought from the Virginia mountains.
The Stables building actually started out as a working horse stable when the Harbor Club opened in 1991. It was part of an equestrian and polo complex that forged the identity of the community and was reflected in the club’s original logo, which featured a stylized polo pony and rider.
As the interest in equestrian activities waned in the mid-1990s, The Stables was transformed into a unique special-event space, complete with horse-drawn carriages that provide a distinctive romantic touch for weddings.
The property’s original equestrian complex included a grandstand and championship polo field that annually hosted national-class matches. Today, the polo field has been transformed into a sports field that can be used for soccer, football and Frisbee play, and is ringed with a quarter-mile running track. The grandstand has been refreshed to provide seating for concerts and other events at The Grove.
Just beyond the sports field, the Harbor Club has created an inviting green space and water feature called Sanctuary Pond, designed as a soothing destination for a picnic or reading. The pond is also stocked for catch-and-release fishing.
Skirting the pond is a one-mile hiking trail that winds throughout The Grove, and an eight-station Fit-Trail for stretching, bending and strength training.
The outdoor amenities at The Grove are open to all residents of the Harbor Club, while the indoor fitness center is open to resident and non-resident club members.
The Harbor Club is a family-owned, 1,000-acre golf and lake community located an hour east of Atlanta and framed by nine miles of shoreline along Georgia’s Lake Oconee.
