Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs, Mich., recently added GolfBoards, which have helped quicken pace of play, and Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls, Mich., updated its 19,500-sq. ft. spa facility, and replaced its Pierson’s Grille & Spirits with the new 40 Acres Tavern.
Boyne Resorts is updating its properties in northern Michigan, as the Heather course at Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs, Mich., celebrates 50 years, and the Bay Harbor (Mich.) Golf Club hit the 20-year mark, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Additional highlights include:
• GolfBoarding at Boyne Highlands: The property’s intent in adding the stand-up, motorized boards was adding a fun way to play golf, to help attract younger people, but officials say the GolfBoards have been a hit with people of all ages. They also noticed that GolfBoards help with pace of play because each golfer goes directly to their own ball, instead of one player having to sit in a cart while waiting for their partner, the Free Press reported.
• Boyne Golf Academy GEARS full-body monitoring: GEARS captures a golfer’s full body motion by using 26 sensors, plus six additional sensors attached to the player’s club. The system, which also integrates eight high-speed cameras, processes the data to provide a full analysis of every angle of a player’s swing. Until recently, GEARS’ 3D scanning was only available to PGA pros, club fitters and manufacturers. Boyne says it’s the first teaching facility in Michigan that uses GEARS. When combined with TrackMan to monitor ball flight with satellite-tracking technology, swing analysis and club fitting has leapt to yet another level, the Free Press reported.
• The Spa at Boyne Mountain: Formerly called Solace Spa, the Boyne Falls, Mich., facility was updated for 2016 with large picture windows overlooking the ski slopes, plus expanded pedicure stations. With 18 treatment rooms, an indoor/outdoor pool, cedar saunas, salon, fitness facilities and whirlpool, Boyne claims it’s the largest spa in Michigan, at 19,500 sq. ft., the Free Press reported.
Also new for 2016 at the Boyne Mountain site are two retail shops: North Face and UnderArmour. The new 40 Acres Tavern replaces Pierson’s Grille & Spirits with updates, a new bar with device-charging stations, a perked-up menu still featuring some old favorites, brighter lighting and new furnishings that expanded the seating capacity. There also are 40 beer options, a variety of coffee selections and other spirits, the Free Press reported.
Boyne has more to offer besides its core of golf and skiing, including the Avalanche Bay indoor water park, a new activities center that doesn’t require swimming-admission fees, wakeboarding classes on Deer Lake, zip lines, tennis courts, outdoor swimming and boat rentals, an indoor arcade, bike riding trails and more, the Free Press reported.
