Daily-fee play at the former Ballymeade Country Club in Falmouth, Mass. is set to begin after a full reconstruction of the golf course. A new practice facility has also been developed. The master plan calls for resort-type amenities including golf villas and cottages and an open-air event pavilion.
The Cape Club by Troon, located on Cape Cod in Falmouth, Mass. will open for daily-fee play on Wednesday, August 3rd. A totally new golf experience will be unveiled at the property, as the original 18-holes were essentially wiped away and a completely new golf course was constructed, coordinated by Troon’s Vice President of Golf Course Development Ron Despain in conjunction with Troon’s development department.
C&RB reported on the redevelopment of the former Ballymeade Country Club in March (http://clubandresortbusiness.com/2016/03/18/cape-club-undergoes-transformation/)
“The new Cape Club by Troon offers the quality of a private club, but it is open to the public,” said Ryan Payne, Director of Golf at The Cape Club. “Together with Troon, we’ve created a first-class golf destination designed to enhance a member for the day experience.”
The new Cape Club by Troon features:
- Elevated tee boxes with ocean and scenic Cape Cod views
- Dramatic water features on holes 9 and 18 that present a challenging finish to each nine
- Augusta white-sand bunkers
- Wide, contoured fairways
- Cart-path materials using white crushed stone, to match the look of the Augusta white-sand bunkers
- Large contoured green complexes
- A new golf cart fleet with GPS yardage, F&B ordering capabilities, USB charging ports for mobile device charging, and bucket seats.
The Cape Club has also unveiled a new practice facility, which has been relocated adjacent to the clubhouse to integrate golf, dining and social activities to provide a unique entertainment experience for guests. Distance-tracking technology has also been integrated into the practice facility, so golfers can accurately track ball speed and distance for each shot.
Long-term plans for the practice facility include the construction of an upper deck with seating areas that allow guests to dine, practice, or take in football or baseball games on flat-screen televisions and socialize, all within steps of the practice tee.
The new clubhouse enhancements at The Cape Club were unveiled last fall, along with the addition of a new restaurant, the Cape Grille Steak & Seafood. Clubhouse enhancements included a complete renovation of fixtures, furnishings, marble tile accents, siding, windows, doors and more. Including the restaurant, the renovated clubhouse is home to more than 20,000 sq. ft. of banquet space, groom and bridal suites, golf shop and meeting space.
The master plan for the Cape Club Resort calls for 28 single-family homes and 80 golf villa and cottages where groups or individuals can spend the night, week or month. Resort shuttle services will take overnight guests to area beaches located just three miles from the Cape Club Resort.
Additional future amenities call for a resort pool with bar and food service overlooking the golf course, an open-air event pavilion overlooking holes 9 and 18, as well as a spa with fitness center and indoor pool facilities. The residential, cottage, spa and pool elements of the resort are currently in the permitting and planning stages.
The Cape Club is located five miles from the Bourne Bridge, the gateway to the Cape, and only a 45-minute ride from Boston, Mass.
