The updated Lincoln, Neb., property is scheduled to open this summer, offering large pool facilities, a second clubhouse, new restaurant, fitness center, tennis, and a par-3 short course. The owner said the property is “only a few dozen members short of being full.”
Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb., is being transformed into Firethorn Resort, and is scheduled to open this summer, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
It has been a major undertaking, and Firethorn owner Mark Wible could not be more excited about the work that is nearing completion, the Journal Star reported.
“We developed our concept of the resort, with a second clubhouse, so Firethorn could appeal to a broader audience and yet retain all the special features of the club’s current atmosphere,” Wible said. “In the past, if challenging golf was the primary reason you wanted to become a member of a country club in Lincoln, Firethorn was where you joined. As demographics have changed, we felt we needed to be competitive in other phases of lifestyle choices.
“With the largest pool of any private club setting in town, a trendy new restaurant, fitness center, tennis offering, a terrific yet challenging par-3 short course and views that’ll knock your socks off, there really isn’t any place else in town able to offer what Firethorn does and at a price point that is very affordable for all walks of life,” Wible said.
Wible noted that many people are on board as resort members already, the Journal Star reported.
“We’ve been very pleased with the reception Lincoln’s residents have shown toward the project,” he said. “We’re only a few dozen members short of being full, and we’re still a couple of months from opening (in July).”
Wible has hired all the key staff, including the resort’s athletics and operations manager—Trent Price, a well-known name in Firethorn and Lincoln golf circles. Price is a former Class A state champ from Lincoln Southeast, the Journal Star reported.
“Trent Price was hired as athletics and operations manager because of his passion for Firethorn and his love of golf,” Wible said. “Trent grew up here. He is young, energetic and has great interpersonal skills. We’re in the process of putting together a great team of managers and staff to make the Resort the spot for young families.”
Price, 29, can’t wait to get started. He and his wife, Elisa, are thrilled about Trent’s new adventure, the Journal Star reported.
“The most exciting part of the job for me is being able to interact with people while incorporating my love of athletics and the Firethorn experience,” Price said. “I have always been very passionate about Firethorn. I began playing at Firethorn in the early ‘90s with my mom and dad, then eventually my little brother. Firethorn, for me, has always been a place that makes you very comfortable. I want to build on that experience. I want our members to utilize the club consistently as the place where they spend their leisure and family time.”
The giant resort pool comes complete with Speed Slide and Splashpad, the Journal Star reported.
“Most traditional pools are prefabricated circular slides with a ladder that leads to a platform, and you go round and round and, at the end, are dropped into the pool,” Wible said. “This slide will be more of a slide that will shoot you into the water as you gain speed, thus the name Speed Slide. We had to design the pool specifically to safely accommodate this difference.”
And the Splashpad is a recent addition to the Resort plan. “It will be a great spot for some of the younger children,” Wible said. “But it should be fun for kids of all ages.”
The goal for Price is to provide “an excellent customer experience” all the way around, and with a variety of activities, the Journal Star reported.
“To name just a few,” he said, “the junior camps and programming for swimming, golf, fitness and tennis will lead the way. Additionally, we’re going to have a really great second restaurant on Firethorn’s campus. Stated simply—we all want our members to have a terrific time while at Firethorn.”
