The Carolinas Chapter of the CMAA hosted its first annual “Chef of the Carolinas” event, so students could be more involved in fundraising efforts and enjoy quality club food in the process.
Each year, the Carolinas Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) hosts a fundraising event for the CMAA Student Chapters in North and South Carolina. Historically, a golf tournament has been held, but on November 1, 2015, the chapter opted instead to host its first annual “Chef of the Carolinas” event, so students could be more involved and enjoy quality club food in the process.
Held at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, N.C., the event helped to “broaden the networking opportunities for students to engage with their hopeful future employers and mentors,” the Carolinas Chapter reports.
In addition to raffle items, including gift certificates to local businesses, golf rounds, one-night stays at local hotels, a BBQ grill set, a Chef’s Choice cooking class at Johnson & Wales, and more, guests cast their votes for their favorite dishes produced by nine of the top club chefs throughout the region.
Paul Clark (see photo, left), Executive Chef of Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C., took top honors with his Korean Braised Short Rib “Wrap” with Pickled Vegetables.
Tickets cost $60 each, and with a sold-out crowd of 100 guests in attendance, the chapter plans to host the event again next year.
