The Falmouth, Mass., property spent $2 million on renovations to the building 10 years ago, but has opted to demolish and rebuild the structure, which was built in 1921, with new fire hydrants, improved access for emergency vehicles, and increased lighting along the driveway.
The clubhouse at Woods Hole Golf Club in Falmouth, Mass., was built in 1921 and is due to be remodeled, the Hyannis, Mass.-based CapeCod.com reported.
However, with the air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical system being out of date following a $2 million renovation 10 years ago, the Falmouth Planning Board has decided to just get rid of the building altogether in favor of a newer, better facility, CapeCod.com reported.
“The purpose of these renovations is really to provide a better clubhouse for the current membership. The intention is not to expand the membership or to change the use of the property,” Robert Ament, the club’s attorney, said.
Among the improvements are new fire hydrants, improved access for emergency vehicles, and increased lighting along the clubhouse driveway, CapeCod.com reported.
“This is a good time to build a new facility for the next hundred years and that’s what the golf club proposes to do,” Ament said.
