The management company is planning to link its Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort properties in Park City, Utah, combining them into one and installing a new two-way gondola to transport guests between lifts at the properties, a new restaurant, and infrastructure upgrades.
Vail Resorts will be implementing up to $115 million worth of improvements to their Park City, Utah facilities. The resort has been working on improvements for the past five years, this round bringing the total to over $500 million. The primary focus of the project is to connect Park City and Canyons to create one large ski resort.
Along with connecting the resorts, plans include the installation of a new, eight-passenger, two-way gondola to transport guests between lifts at Park City and Canyons; a new restaurant with a top-of-the-line kitchen and increased seating will be added; infrastructure upgrades essential to the growth of the resorts; as well as lift upgrades and trail expansions.
Efficiency is a major focus as Vail also has plans to replace the current Avanti Express Lift with a six-passenger lift to improve wait times and reliability. Loading conveyors and gates will be added to keep things running smoothly and increase capacity.
New fan guns will be added to Centennial and Red Tail trails to ensure guests will always be the freshest possible snow. New snowmaking pipes will be laid at Breckenridge (Colo.) Resort so as to open the lower area early on in the season, regardless of natural snowfall.
Further, the Keystone (Colo.) Lodge and Spa will be receiving new carpets, woodwork, and doors, in addition to upgraded linens and other soft goods. The newest addition, EpicMix Time, will allow guests to access lift line waits in real-time from their personal devices. This is in an effort to help better navigate the mountain and improve guest satisfaction.
“Each year, Vail Resorts is the industry leader in capital improvements to ensure an unparalleled guest experience at each of our resorts. The overall capital plan reflects our goal to target high return investments which support a premium experience and our improvement plan in Utah will be one of the most transformative ever undertaken in the ski industry,” said Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz.
