The Branson, Mo., property announced the name change last week, indicating that the move was made in association with the expiration of a licensing agreement with Payne Stewart Enterprises.
Payne Stewart Golf Club in Branson, Mo., is now known as Branson Hills Golf Club, the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader reported.
Branson Hills Golf Company, LLC—an affiliate of development and construction company HCW, LLC—announced the name change last week. A news release indicates that the move was made in association with the expiration of a licensing agreement with Payne Stewart Enterprises, the News-Leader reported.
“While we have mutually agreed with the course ownership to allow the affiliation to end with the expiration of our licensing agreement, we are glad that the course has provided Missouri residents and visitors with a first class golf experience, while honoring Missouri native Payne Stewart’s legacy,” an unnamed spokesperson said in the release. “We hope the course will continue to be enjoyed in the future.”
Golf Manager Dan Davis said in the release that the club is making upgrades to the golf course and club house. “We plan to continue displaying photographs of Missouri golf legends throughout the club house,” Davis said.
The golf club said on Facebook that it will continue to honor gift certificates with the old name until the printed expiration date, and that gift cards will be valid for two years, the News-Leader reported.
Professional golfer Payne Stewart, a Springfield native, won eleven GFA Tour events before dying in an airplane accident in 1999. Payne Stewart Enterprises promotes his trademark name and logo. The Branson facility is separate from the similarly-named Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, the News-Leader reported.
