The facility was put up for sale last fall, and the shareholders have approved opening the course to the public to keep the grounds in good condition and generate revenue to cover taxes, insurance, and utilities.
Hastings (Minn.) Country Club, which was put up for sale last fall, has opened as a public golf course, the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald reported.
Last October, the club’s shareholders closed the facility for lack of funds, terminated private memberships and directed its executive committee to sell the facility, the Herald reported.
But at a special shareholder meeting held May 1, the club’s executive committee said potential buyers were hesitant to pursue a purchase that many months later could be rejected by shareholders. To mitigate that uncertainty and speed up the sale, the shareholders gave the executive committee chairman the authority to deed the 140-acre property to a buyer, the Herald reported.
The shareholders approved opening the course to the public to keep the grounds in golf course condition and generate revenue to help cover fixed costs such as taxes, insurance and utilities, the Herald reported.
The course will operate each day beginning at 7 a.m. Players can walk, rent pull carts or rent riding carts. There will be no food or beverages available for the remainder of May. The club’s restaurant will remain closed, the Herald reported.
