The 233-acre Sarasota, Fla. property, located near Interstate 75, has changed hands several times since 2010. The purchase includes a 10,000-sq. ft. clubhouse.
Serenoa Holdings LLC, a Sarasota, Fla. company, has bought the 233-acre Serenoa Golf Club in Sarasota, including its 10,220-sq.-ft. clubhouse, for $3.25 million, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. The club is located near Interstate 75 and has a golf course designed by Mark Alden.
Records show that the new holding company is managed by Jon Whittemore, who financed the purchase with two loans totaling $2.83 million from Sabal Palm Bank, the Herald-Tribune reported.
Those records show the seller as Serenoa Golf Club LP, an Austin, Texas, company managed by J. Michael Ussery, which bought the course out of foreclosure for $2 million in December 2012, the Herald-Tribune reported.
Prior to that, the course was previously owned by Serenoa Golf Club LLC, a New York City company managed by Mark Mashburn. It lost a $4.3 million foreclosure judgment in May 2010 and transferred the property to its lender a month later, the Herald-Tribune reported.
Whittemore was then involved in another golf course deal last year, the Herald-Tribune reported. A company that he manages paid $1.5 million for the 139-acre Rolling Green Golf Club in north Sarasota.
Green Golf Club LLC bought that course and four buildings out of foreclosure from Redus Fl Properties LLC.
Whittemore’s company financed the purchase with two loans totaling $1.25 million from Sabal Palm Bank, Herald-Tribune reported.
The previous owner, CT Rolling Green LLC, a Tampa, Fla. company managed by Cindy Knott Taylor, paid $5.3 million for the property in December 2005 and defaulted on a $4.5 million loan from Wachovia Bank in February 2009, the Herald-Tribune reported.
