In an effort to attract younger families, the club built the outdoor amenity, which features a heated adult pool with diving well, a children’s wading pool and expansive deck.
In order to stay relevant and attract younger families, the Dubuque (Iowa) Golf & Country Club built an outdoor aquatic resort, the Cedar Rapids (Iowa)-based KCRG 9 News reported.
“The time involved to be out there (golfing) is 4 and a half hours, for 18 holes,” General Manager Rich Bugalski said. “And a lot of individuals don’t have that today because of such busy schedules.”
The pool complex features a heated adult pool with a 12-foot diving well and a separate children’s wading pool with a zero-depth entry, all surrounded by an expansive deck with comfortable lounge chairs and umbrella-covered tables, according to the club’s website.
New mom JoAnn Giese said she joined the club last winter after deciding time is of the essence. “I just actually quit my job to stay home with my daughter, so we come here a lot an experience the new pool. It’s fantastic,” said Giese.
Directors say Giese is like many families who recently joined the club in order to take advantage of the new resort, KCRG 9 reported.
“We have not been in the lazy river yet,” said Giese. “She’s kind of just getting used to the water. But she does love the zero depth entry.”
So far it seems to be working. The club’s membership spiked this summer, KCRG 9 reported.
“This really has an opportunity that you can spend a few days here,” Bugalski said. “Dad can do some golfing and meet the mom and kids and spend a family day here.”
Directors say for a couple hundred dollars per month, customers can purchase a membership, strictly to use the pool. Worth the money, they say, because what they’re really selling is family time, KCRG 9 reported.
