Atlantic Beach Partners LLC purchased the Atlantic Beach, Fla., property for $4.3 million, with plans to change its name to Atlantic Beach Country Club. As part of the purchase, about $12 million will be spent on facility improvements, including replacing the golf course, and adding a new 12,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, seven tennis courts, and a junior Olympic-size swimming pool.
After years of discussions and negotiations, the sale of Selva Marina Country Club in Atlantic Beach, Fla., was finalized January 14, the Jacksonville-based Florida Times-Union reported.
Atlantic Beach Partners LLC finalized the purchase of the club on January 14 for $4.3 million. Known as Selva Marina Country Club for 55 years, the new owners will change the name to Atlantic Beach Country Club, a news release said. Work on revamping the facility will begin this month, the Times-Union reported.
“Anything great is worth waiting for, and Atlantic Beach Country Club will prove to be worth the wait,” said Rick Wood, managing partner of Atlantic Beach Partners. “Our location three blocks from the beach and the amenities and lifestyle being created address an unmet need. We’re going to do everything possible to make this the preferred choice for families seeking a relaxed club lifestyle at the beaches.”
As part of the purchase, Atlantic Beach Partners will spend about $12 million on improvements to the facility. The revamp will include replacing the golf course with a new 18-hole championship course designed by Erik Larsen. There will also be a new 12,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, seven tennis courts, and a junior Olympic-size swimming pool, the Times-Union reported.
In addition to the overhaul, 178 single-family homes will be built on land surrounding the golf course. Lots will range from 55 feet to 80 feet wide with prices starting in the $160,000s, the Times-Union reported.
Melanie Green, communications director for the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors, said the new homes coming to Atlantic Beach couldn’t have come at a better time. “The 178 single-family homes that will be built will help replenish some inventory that has been depleted,” Green said. “We have a lot of people competing for properties and because of the reduced inventory, prices are going up.”
The move to purchase and revamp the facility seems to have sparked renewed interest in the site. The announced closing on the transaction came in August and as of December 31, the news release said, there have been 370 new memberships, the Times-Union reported.
“We surpassed our 2013 year-end projections in October and the momentum continues to build,” Carlin said.
Selva Marina Country Club was the original home to what would become The Players Championship, which was then known as The Greater Jacksonville Open, before the tournament was moved to Ponte Vedra Beach. Selva Marina hosted The Greater Jacksonville Open in 1965-66, the Times-Union reported.
Officials anticipate the opening of the revamped country club and athletic facilities to take place in 2014, the Times-Union reported.
