Dog-friendly property Lansdowne Resort is expanding its canine accommodation efforts with “Howl for the Holidays,” which allows dogs to stay free with a guest and have the $100 non-refundable pet fee waived from November 24 through December 30.
“We have seen an increase in the number of guests inquiring about whether we were dog-friendly, so this decision was a direct result,” said Michael Snapkoski, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Leesburg, Va., resort. “Aside from our resort, there are dog-friendly parks in the area, so allowing dogs seemed like a great way to fulfill a need for guests and families that love to travel with their four-legged friends.”
The resort is also extending one of the more tantalizing aspects of the holidays—delicious food—to this guest segment with its Kanine Kitchen menu. All items are onion- and corn-free, and made with wholesome ingredients. Lunch and dinner dishes include Lansdowne Ruff’s Risotto, made with minced meat, rice, and chopped vegetables; and Meatloaf a la Fido, a baked potato, vegetable, egg, wheat germ and beef dish.
Treats such as the Peanut Butter Doggy Bone, made with flour, oatmeal, peanut butter and Virginia honey, and Virginia Apple Pup-Cakes, made with apple chips, whole-wheat flour, and vanilla, round out the offerings, which can even be delivered through room service. Guests who brought companions to the resort over Thanksgiving were also able to treat their pups to their own dog-friendly meals of turkey, oatmeal, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce.

The resort does have size restrictions, however—if a guest has one dog, it cannot weigh more than 75 pounds, and for two, the limit is 50 pounds per dog.
The 500-acre resort includes other built-in dog amenities, such as the Bark Park, a dog-friendly rest area, and the Potomac Heritage Trail, a walking path where dog and owner can explore the banks of the Potomac River.
