The $100,000 project at the Jamestown, N.D., golf course will rebuild or replace 20 bunkers and redesign some fairways. The city hired Herfort Norby Golf Course Architects in June to provide design services and create a master plan for improvements. The city has set a goal of completing the work by October 1.
Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course will have more bunkers and some redesigned fairways next spring after the Jamestown (N.D.) Parks and Recreation Commission approved seeking bids for the work, the Jamestown (N.D.) Sun reported.
The commission authorized Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hogan to advertise for bids to rebuild or replace about 20 bunkers at the golf course. In June, the commission hired Herfort Norby Golf Course Architects, of Chaska, Minn., to provide design and consulting services to create a master plan for improvements to the golf course, the Sun reported.
Hogan plans on advertising for bids on the $100,000 project starting this week. Bid opening will be held September 4, with a goal of having the work completed by October 1, the Sun reported.
“We want to get the bunker part done this fall so we can get the dirt work done and seeding in before the end of October,” Hogan said.
Hogan intends to review a 59-page contract with the golf course architect firm to make sure it conforms to North Dakota wage and labor laws, the Sun reported.
Currently, there are 24 bunkers on the golf course. When the work is completed there will be 28, Hogan said, with some of the existing bunkers moved and new ones created. Some of the fairways will be redesigned and tree work is planned as well, the Sun reported.
“This work will make the course a little easier for someone who isn’t out there [golfing] all the time, but it will also offer some challenging shots for the low-handicap golfer,” Hogan said.
The need for improving the bunkers was made apparent again with the heavy rains that fell last week in Jamestown. About one inch of rain fell in parts of the city, and standing water remained in some bunkers as of August 12, the Sun reported.
