Sparks from a circular saw caused the blaze at the Napa, Calif., club as workers were cutting old pipes in a back area of the property. The fire was contained within a half hour and the club remained open during the incident, with golfers continuing to play as fire engines drove onto the property.
Sparks from a circular saw on the afternoon of July 24 caused a 1/2-acre grass fire at the Napa (Calif.) Valley Country Club, the Napa (Calif.) Valley Register reported.
Workers were apparently cutting old pipes in a back area of the property, the Register reported.
Volunteer firefighters from Carneros on their way to train at Silverado Middle School spotted the smoke at about 5 p.m., according to the Carneros Fire and CalFire/Napa County Fire. The fire engine and others then headed to the site. The fire was contained at 5:30 p.m., the Register reported.
“As the summer continues, it will not be as easy to catch these fires,” said CalFire/Napa County Fire Battalion Chief Barry Biermann.
David Goldman, a neighbor of the Napa Valley Country Club, said he did not realize what was going on until he saw the fire engines arrive, the Register reported.
“I’m glad they’re around,” Goldman said, as volunteer firefighters put out hot spots near his vineyard.
The country club remained open during the incident. Golfers continued to play as fire engines drove inside the country club to reach the fire, the Register reported.
