Mirimichi Golf Course, Millington, Tenn., officially celebrated its reopening with a news conference in September featuring Co-Founders/Co-Owners Lynn Harless, Paul Harless and entertainer Justin Timberlake, along with officials from the Golf Environment Organization.
Mirimichi, formerly known as Big Creek, had been closed since mid-January for $16 million worth of improvements that included irrigation and drainage system upgrades to maximize rainwater use, as well as renovations to expand the course’s wetlands, wildflowers and native grasses. Now complete, the par-72 championship course is a challenging 7,400 yards from the tips, but provides five to eight different tee boxes on each hole to appeal to golfers of all abilities.
Mirimichi owners also cut the ribbon on the Mirimichi Performance and Learning Center-one of a select few facilities in the country to feature Callaway CPAS technology. The Center, 10,200 sq. ft. under the roof with a 920-sq. ft. screened-in patio, is the hub of Mirimichi’s training and education, offering instruction and club fitting. A wealth of technology is used to analyze golfers’ swings and resulting ball flight to produce optimal specifications, regardless of the clubs they are currently playing or interested in purchasing. Three teaching bays feature roll-up doors, allowing students to hit from inside the building onto the driving range.
Mirimichi is the first golf course in North, South or Central America to receive Golf Environment Organization-certified status. It is also the first course in the United States to be designated as a Certified Audubon International Classic Sanctuary, making it the only course in the world holding both designations.
