The Club at LaTour, the first semi-private golf club to be developed in the New Orleans area since Hurricane Katrina, is under construction and expected to open in September. The 18-hole course in Mathews, La., is being built by area native John Brady, a general partner in The Club at LaTour, and designed by former PGA Champion and Louisiana Tour Professional David Toms, in association with Ken Morgan of Morgan Golf Design.
The course design is intended to appeal to golfers of all skill levels, with a mix of shot values. Its topography will include undulations and rolling hills, making it unique among Louisiana golf courses.
New Leaf Management Inc. of Southwest Florida has been appointed to manage all aspects of The Club at LaTour, including assisting in the course- and clubhouse-design process. According to Joey Garon, President of New Leaf Management, the company will hire from 75 to 100 people to run The Club at LaTour when it opens later this year. Future development plans for the 630-acre property include a commercial development and more than 500 housing units that will surround the golf course.
