The long Sierra Nevada winter is finally becoming a memory and optimistic golfers are ready to hit the links at Old Greenwood in Truckee, Calif. which opened earlier this month with the debut its new Golf Academy, Northern California’s only golf school facility fully dedicated to instruction.
Beginners can learn good habits; intermediate golfers can get a more fluid, powerful swing, and advanced golfers can shave strokes off with the help of the new Golf Academy at Old Greenwood™. Keith Lyford, the new director of instruction, has been head instructor for some of the country’s most-respected golf schools. He is a former PGA Tour player and a member of the Titleist Professional Advisory Board.
The Golf Academy at Old Greenwood is a 15-acre training complex that hosts a 1,500 square foot learning center equipped with an indoor/outdoor hitting bay, flat-screen TVs, lockers, club storage, a fully-staffed reception area and high-speed internet access. Its outdoor classroom consists of two large all-grass tees and a five-acre short game facility, with several greens for putting, chipping and sand play.
Using a four-camera system, our pros can evaluate swings on split-screen TVs and even compare your swing to one of over 500 Tour Pros who we have on file. The video, analysis, commentary and suggested at-home drills are stored in students’ online "lockers" for anytime viewing. The Golf Academy also provides a free home version of the analysis software so students can email another swing video to instructors for "virtual" critique.
Club fitting is also an integral part of the performance formula at The Golf Academy at Old Greenwood. Another facet to a quality golf game is physical fitness. The Golf Academy’s in-house fitness expert, Mark Tedsen, is a certified Titleist Performance Institute golf fitness trainer, as well as a licensed and practicing Physical Therapist. Tedsen helps students identify any physical limitations that may be affecting their swing.
