The Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club (Palo Alto, Calif.) plans to add a series of renovations, capped by new spa and fitness facility, to revive the club’s 50-year-old facilities says an article in the Palo Alto Online News.
Earlier this week the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission unanimously recommended approval of those projects with a significant caveat: the 17,700-square-foot new building’s roof line must be about 8 feet lower to fit within the city’s 25-foot height limit for the foothills.
The new building is planned to include a spa, locker rooms, children’s facilities, group exercise rooms and a workout room. It would be south of the existing club buildings off Alexis Drive in the foothills.
The project—the cost of which is considered "proprietary information," according to General Manager Dirk Zander—also includes a new grass tennis court, a deeper pool, a larger dining area, 27 below-grade parking spaces, a porte-cochere (covered drive-through entrance), two smaller banquet rooms, a wading pool, a larger pro shop, reconfiguration of the offices and a driving range, according to the city staff report.
The club’s construction chair, Don Rose, said in the article they would like to begin construction this fall. First, however the project must be reviewed by the city’s Architectural Review Board and approved by the City Council. No dates have been set.
