Myakka Pines GC in Englewood, Fla., has experienced an unexpected onslaught of attention after a photo of a 13-foot alligator was posted on its Facebook page. The club has even received two requests for membership since the posting.
Though it’s not unusual to see alligators on golf courses in Florida, one snapshot is getting an unexpected volume of attention via social media.
Mickie Zada, General Manager of Myakka Pines Golf Club in Englewood, Fla., posted a few photos of a 13-foot alligator on the 7th hole to the club’s Facebook page, and the image quickly spread, drawing over 500,000 views on Facebook, and phone calls from local, regional, and national media outlets, according to a report by the Tampa Bay (Fla.)-based Fox News 13.
The national interest has come as a surprise to Zada and golf pro Frank Perilli, who say that the gator presence is frequent on the property, Fox 13 reported.
“It’s Florida—there are gators,” Zada said.
Both gators and golfers have co-existed on the property for 40 years, with no negative incidents on record, Fox 13 reported.
“It’s all part of the club history and the golf course, so people are getting a free alligator show when they show up here,” Perilli said.
