The new Shea Homes community in Ocala, Fla. unveiled its unique Tom Lehman/Tripp Davis-designed “loop” courses to members and the media and is now ready to incorporate public play on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays.

The Independence, Minn., property is renovating all bunkers, redesigning the par-5 12th hole, and adding 14 new tee boxes as well as native grasses to help minimize irrigation. The renovation began earlier this month, and is expected to be complete by November, with the property remaining open throughout.

The Arizona community and country club has introduced a “Golfing Lifestyle” membership that allows new buyers to save the $25,000 fee by joining within 90 days from the close of escrow.

A hybrid sand mix has “dramatically increased the level of playability,” says Dick Hyland, Director of Golf. Liners have also been replaces and the drainage system has been improved.

Opened in 1968, the 900-acre, Florence, S.C., club offers a 7,150-yard championship golf course designed by Ellis Maples, a 30,000-sq. ft. clubhouse, multiple dining venues, a fitness center, junior Olympic pool, lighted tennis complex, and multi-station playground.
