Elk Herds Damage Bend, Ore., Golf Courses
Displaced herds are calling golf courses home in the area, and are doing damage to greens through hoof prints, droppings and urine that kills the grass. Sunriver Resort uses fencing around the greens to keep the elk from treading on the putting surfaces, and takes care to sod areas where urine damages the grass.

The GolfBoard, an oversized electric skateboard that can carry a golfer and clubs as they “surf the fairways” from hole to hole, was recently demonstrated at a charity event in (where else) California. Paul Hodge, who heads the company that makes the device, says the invention offers golfers a better workout and might help to “attract the younger crowds.”
Report Shows Stability for Oregon Resorts
A report for the Oregon Employment Department shows that destination resorts in the state are showing signs of stability in employment after a period of uncertainty that began with the recession in 2008. Among other projects in the region, Tetherow Golf Club in Bend, Ore., is constructing new lodging facilities, which are expected to be ready in the spring.
Tetherow GC Opens New Pub
The Row officially opened for business on December 23, offering more than 30 bottled beers and 12 taps that feature numerous local brews, cider and one nitro, and a menu crafted by Executive Chef Zac Hoffman. The pub’s name “pays homage” to the Bend, Ore., club’s regulars who often shorten the facility’s name to The Row.
