The semi-private facility in Laurel, Md., was recently purchased by Alan Cohen, a first-time golf course owner, from former owner/operator Fore Golf Partners. A five-year contract has been signed with Cohen for Landscapes to control club and golf course operations. Patuxent Greens has a Russell Roberts-designed course and is planning a clubhouse renovation that will include development of a 250-guest banquet space.
An original proposal for the first rate increases at the city’s four courses since 2008 would have tripled prices, to put them on par with those at Tascosa Golf Club and Amarillo Country Club. But a compromise was then adopted by the City Council, which feels the quality of its courses justifies the hike, even with declining play and cost-recovery rates.
The semi-private Valparaiso, Ind. course was recently acquired by the Aberdeen Property Owners’ Association. In other management-company news, the city of Sioux Falls, S.D. has opened its contract for three courses to proposals for the first time since 1994, and five firms, including the present operator, Dakota Golf Management, have submitted bids.
When the 2021 tournament returns to the Nebraska club, which also hosted it in 2013, it will tie the record for fastest return of a Senior Open.
