At the management firm’s annual awards dinner, The Country Club of St. Albans (Mo.) was named Facility of the Year, and James Fitzsimmons, General Manager of The Governors Club in Brentwood, Tenn., earned the James R. Seeley Award at General Manager of the Year. Joe Smith of Swenson Park Golf Course and Van Buskirk Golf Course in Stockton, Calif. was given the Emil Esposito Golf Professional of the Year Award, and Jason Pierce of Heron Glen Golf Course in Ringoes, N.J. was named Superintendent of the Year.

California Courses Cope with Excess Water
Heavy rains are keeping some golf courses in Sacramento and Stockton closed with flooded fairways and muddy conditions. Surrounding golf courses also face the threat of additional flooding from the damaged Lake Oroville dam, located 70 miles from Sacramento, that has caused the evacuation of nearly 200,000 people. More storms are expected later this week.
Pelican Preserve Completes Golf Course, Clubhouse Renovations
The Fort Myers, Fla., property has completed a five-month project that refreshed its 27-hole championship golf course, and updated the 26,145-sq. ft. clubhouse’s interior to include a new indoor/outdoor covered patio, doubling the available seating in the dining room.

The Fort Myers, Fla., property’s Heron course will close in June for updates to nine putting greens, including collars and green surrounds. The clubhouse will see the addition of a new indoor/outdoor covered patio, a banquet room, and fitness center with spa treatment rooms.

The Fort Myers, Fla., club’s project dedicated 3,000 sq. ft. to two exercise rooms, and added a 65,000-gallon outdoor lap pool that is complemented by “Flip Flops,” a resort-style poolside bar. Additional renovation enhancements include a new golf cart parking lot and new landscaping.
Owners Donate Stonelinks GC to City
Don and Tom Salmon “accidentally” purchased the closed golf course while bidding on 664 acres of adjacent farmland, and have decided to donate the property to the city of North Little Rock, Ark. It is not yet clear how the land will be used.
