The Landings Club Bounces Back After Hurricane Matthew
Almost 300 club employees from all departments cleared debris and trees from the Savannah, Ga., club’s grounds and 91 miles of roadways after the October 7 storm, allowing most club amenities to reopen by October 17. Club members also donated a total of $90,000 to the Employee Needs Fund, which helps employees experiencing unexpected financial hardship.
The Sea Pines Resort Pays Staff During Closure
The Hilton Head Island, S.C., resort closed its doors when it took some damage from Hurricane Matthew that required cleanup, but the resort has announced it is paying staff for what would have been normal working hours, had the resort not closed. “It is our hope that this additional compensation, above and beyond actual hours you may have worked during this pay period, provides you with [peace] of mind, comfort and normalcy,” a letter from President Steve Birdwell said.
Hurricane Matthew Takes Toll on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The eye of the storm passed 20 miles to the east of the city, and at least one gust of 87 mph was recorded. In Virginia Beach, Va., more than 100 wedding guests were stranded at Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club overnight due to flooding, while Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., saw minimal damage from the storm.
