Gerry Barousse Jr., a real estate developer and banker, noted that including golf in the project was “crucial to create sustainability within the model and a revenue stream to support the program.”

Merion GC to Host 2022 Curtis Cup Match

The Ardmore, Pa., property will host the Curtis Cup, a biennial competition matching female amateurs from the U.S. against those from Great Britain and Ireland, for the second time. The event will mark the end of the property’s nine-year break from hosting championships, after it hosted the U.S. Open in 2013.


KemperSports to Manage Two Pierce County, Wash., Golf Courses

Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma, Wash., features an 18-hole golf course that opened in 1967 with a 3,500-sq. ft. clubhouse. Ft. Steilacoom Golf Course, located down the street from Chambers Bay in Lakewood, Wash., which is also managed by KemperSports, is a nine-hole course with robust junior development programming.


Rounds Decrease Puts Arsenal Island GC in Peril

Golf Pro Todd Fowler described the Rock Island, Ill., property as being in a “use it or lose it” situation, as low rounds could prompt the U.S. Army to close it down. Part of the property’s drop in rounds is likely due to stringent security measures enacted in December 2015 that required visitors to offer more than one form of identification to enter the island.


Sinkhole Opens Outside The Mar-a-Lago Club

A 4-foot-by-4-foot sinkhole opened up on a road directly in front of President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Fla., property, and utility crews did some exploratory excavating around it on May 22. In a fundraiser held at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., White House press secretary Sean Spicer emphasized to the audience that Trump’s club properties are “all about quality. It’s the same kind of qualities, the same kind of dedication, that he’s brought to the White House.”


Rochester (Minn.) G&CC Proposes $10.8M Project

Under the proposal, $6.4 million would be spent to update the A.W. Tillinghast-designed golf course, removing 350 trees to make way for redesigned greens, tee boxes and vistas. The club is also proposing a $4.4 million upgrade to the clubhouse, including a larger bar and grill and a new pool. Member voting on the project will be tabulated on May 25.
