The Kentucky Tourism Arts and Heritage Cabinet announced that it will look at alternative recreational uses for the nine-hole course, AP reported. The state park system had sought proposals for private businesses to manage the golf course but didn’t receive any responses, according to a news release announcing the closing.
The state already has closed the nine-hole course at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton, Ky., AP reported, and is also looking at alternative uses for that property. The state parks department will keep the nine-hole course at Kincaid Lake State Park in Falmouth, Ky., open through October 31.
“The park system is no longer able to maintain the quality standards for golf at the three courses, due to decreasing number of rounds played and rising maintenance costs,” said Donnie Holland, Commissioner of Kentucky state parks.
All full-time employees will be retained, according to the release.
The Kentucky State Parks department now operates twelve 18-hole courses along with another 9-hole course at John James Audubon State Park in Henderson, Ky., AP reported.
