Now under ownership of GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness, the property hosted an open house on January 19 to showcase its new fitness center. The second phase of construction will add a new bar and grill, re-build the back patio, and upgrade the front entrance.
GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness, the company that has owned the St. Joseph (Mo.) Country Club for almost a year, hosted an open house on January 19 to unveil new renovations inside the historic building, the St. Joseph News-Press reported.
Phase one of the improvement project started on June 1, 2016, with the demolition of the old grill room, which has now been transformed into a state-of-the-art fitness center, the News-Press reported.
“Whenever there are construction projects with old buildings there are problems all over the place,” General Manager Chris Fore said. “But I’m very excited we made it to the finish line and culminating it with the ribbon cutting.”
The new workout area has a wide range of equipment including TV’s, music speakers, treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, pull-up bars and more, the News-Press reported.
“We brought on a couple of fitness trainers to help people with classes,” Fore said. “And we’re developing a TPI certification which is a Titleist Performance Institute. It’s a workout regimen specifically just for golfers that gives you optimal club head speed and creates more distance which everybody wants.”
The second phase of construction will add a new bar and grill, re-build the back patio and upgrade the front entrance, the News-Press reported.
Fore said the club currently has 297 members total and is opening their doors to attract more members of all income levels with tours of their new additions. “I’d like to see us get to 400 golf memberships and 200 to 250 fitness memberships,” he said.
GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness operates over 50 facilities in Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, and it recently took over the management of the Green Hills Golf Course in Chilicothe, Mo., and a nearby bowling alley called The Fast Lane Family Entertainment Center, the News-Press reported.
“In the Kansas City area we just acquired another three golf courses so now we have 18 in Kansas City region,” Fore said. “Just watching it expand over the last two and a half, three years has been unbelievable and I’m very happy to be a part of it.”
There are many employment opportunities when the second renovation is complete, Fore said, and the property is currently accepting applications, the News-Press reported.
“I’m getting ready to do a job fair here in a couple of weeks,” Fore said. “Our restaurant is going to open again Feb. 1. We’ve got some staff right now, but we’re looking for front of the house staff, wait staff, bartenders, servers, busers, back of the house staff, a head chef, line cooks, dishwashers.
“The perks to being an employee are great,” he said. “You can go out and play golf pretty much whenever you want to. That is an amazing possibility for any staff member that comes on board with us.”
