The organization has announced the 2017 winners of the James B. Singerling Scholarship, which allows recipients to attend the CMAA World Conference on Club Management and Club Business Expo for the first time as a club industry professional, and the 2016 Joe Perdue Scholarship, which provides tuition support to students who are pursuing careers in club management.
The Club Foundation has announced the 2017 recipients of its James B. Singerling Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to make it possible for recipients to attend the CMAA World Conference on Club Management and Club Business Expo for the first time as a club industry professional. In 2014, The Club Foundation established the James B. Singerling Scholarship in honor of CMAA’s long-time CEO, Jim Singerling, upon his retirement after 25 years of leadership.
The 2017 recipients are:
• Dominique Gray, Atlantic Beach (Fla.) Country Club
• Joshua Baskey, Ballantyne Country Club, Charlotte, N.C.
“The funding of this scholarship will enable recipients to benefit from the expansive professional development and networking opportunities available at the World Conference,” said Seth Gregg, Chief Operating Officer of The Club Foundation. “We are pleased to foster the growth of club management professionals striving to make a positive impact on the industry and in their communities.”
The Club Foundation has also announced the five recipients of the 2016 Joe Perdue Scholarship:
• Alexis Lecceadone, Niagara University
• Kerryan O’Connor, Johnson & Wales University – Rhode Island
• Kevin Duffy, Johnson & Wales University – Rhode Island
• Lynda Le, University of North Texas
• Matthew Nossavage, Niagara University
The scholarship was established in 1988 to honor Joe Perdue, CCM, CHE, the club industry’s leading hospitality educator. From 1986 to 2015, Joe Perdue served as Academic Advisor for the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). Responsible for the initial development of CMAA’s Business Management Institute (BMI), Joe coordinated more than 300 weeklong BMI programs for more than 10,000 managers. Beyond the US, he developed professional education programs in China, South Africa, Europe and Canada.
The Joe Perdue Scholarship provides tuition support to students who are pursuing careers in club management. Any individual who is actively seeking a managerial career in the club industry and is currently attending an accredited, four-year college or university undergraduate program may apply to The Club Foundation for scholarship aid. This year’s recipients represent four CMAA student chapters from across the country.
Since its inception in 1988, The Club Foundation has awarded 182 student scholarships totaling more than $330,000. Many past recipients are now working in management positions at clubs and serve as leaders in the industry.
“The Club Foundation commends these individuals for their demonstration of excellence and commitment,” said Gregg. “The Club Foundation provides these scholarships through the continued generosity and support of CMAA’s members, chapters and Corporate Alliance Partners.”
